Inno NLU/GenAI bot/assistant

Inno [named for innovation] is a custom chatbot/assistant that I envisioned and designed, residing on KenLonyai.com and AIProductGuy.com. She is not a 3rd party app or plugin.

Inno is unusual in that she combines the best of NLU and generative AI technologies into one seamless experience.

Inno uses intent sorting [a term I coined] to analyze a user’s utterance, extract its intent, and then, based on intent-matching rules, sort that intent between NLU and generative capabilities. The intent is then passed to the appropriate platform, which responds accordingly.

Inno is not a general conversationalist. She will only talk with visitors about four topics:

  1. innovation
  2. product management
  3. UX
  4. Ken Lonyai

Attempts to break Inno and get her to go off-topic have so far failed [as per plan]. Topical laser-focus is one of my design goals and its realization is largely attributable to the care I invested in prompt engineering.

Inno is both a very valuable tool and a technology demonstrator. My intent in creating Inno was to prove two hypotheses: first, the usefulness of chatbots as a simpler, more natural way to acquire information [the major search engines have now agreed and joined the party]; and second, that there is no single correct technology for all use cases. Additionally, Inno’s success defies a number of assertions that either:

  1. overstate the significance of LLMs
  2. demean LLMs as overhyped
  3. dismiss NLU as no longer viable in the age of generative AI
  4. argue hallucinations render LLMs untrustworthy or unusable
  5. reject AI, particularly generative AI as being unsafe

Additionally, I designed the UI to not be pegged to the lower right corner of a screen. That’s a design pattern that is copied incessantly and robotically, yet has little justification, particularly when the focus of interaction is the chat itself. And… Inno finally eliminates the need for a contact form. As an assistant, she takes messages and reaches out to me in the background.

Lastly, she has more features on her roadmap including SMS capability and a voice UI!
